I heard VPNs might significantly reduce my connection speed?
Once again, it depends on which service you choose. NordVPN is one of the fastest services. They have about a gazillion servers (well, over 5000) all around the globe, and they are beefy servers. Another problem with smaller/free VPNs is that the hardware they use isn't particularly powerful.
It's also worth remembering that many ISPs also throttle your speed to balance the load on their servers and to give preference to some content. Sometimes, a VPN actually gives you faster access, because you avoid the ISP throttling.
