Thanks for the heads up, @dinah. I love this opera. I have a cherished memory of taking my mother to hear it at the Sydney Opera House, the last concert we attended together. The staging was exquisite and the performances equalled the staging. Mum and I were in a glow after it.
Hello there, @capriccio π
I'm glad the link is to your liking, I'm usually not quite sure about posting such links, don't want to be a nuisance to members, but I decide to share these anyway, in the hope that someone might find it of use to them!
It was very heartwarming to hear about your experience watching Madama Butterfly with your Mum! Such a beautiful, dear memory, indeed! π
Incidentally, Puccini's Butterfly is one of my favourite operas (I don't know if I've already mentioned it, but my absolute favourite remains Boris Godunov!). A very long time ago I was given a recording called Opera without Words: Puccini's Madama Butterfly, and even without the setting and acting and singing (you know I'm a big advocate of the "wholesome" experience of opera, lock, stock and barrel!) one can tell that it's easily one of the most beautiful opera scores ever written, IMHO!
I hope to (virtually) see you there!
I am not familiar with Boris Godunov, so I must remedy that, @dinah. Is there a recording you would recommend?
Hi @capriccio
Did you manage to catch Madama Butterfly live? I couldn't, unfortunately! I'll watch it over the next weekend I guess!
Now, where to start with Modest Mussorgsky's Boris Godunov?! π€
I think we should start a separate thread on that opera? Maybe other friends would join in! What do you think?Β

Which recording do you recommend?
