I just found out Apple Music has a playlist titled "Classical You Must Hear This Month". In the current list is a recording of the first movement of an Oboe Concerto by Peteris Vasks that I fell in love with. The first movement reminds me of Vaughan-William's 'A Lark Ascending'.

Thank you so so much for sharing Vasks with us. π
I'm listening to the concerto for the second time in a row, so wonderful! WOW!!
I'm beginning to think that I have to overcome my "prejudice" against postmodern classical music, and start exploring composers in the vein of Maestro Vasks!
You're right, about the Lark Ascending similarity. The whole concerto evokes images of nature, especially that first movement (something he's apparently very passionate about, from what I've read).
I'm also reminded of the Russian Romantic composers listening to certain passages of the concerto. Don't know if it's real, or just in my head, though. π€·ββοΈ
P. S. I'm listening to the concerto to a beautiful background of torrential rain on my windows, our first of the season here in Cairo! π€ Goodness, I love autumn!
I was browsing through Maestro Vasks' catalogued works on Idagio. His flute and orchestra concerto is equally beautiful, @tim-h π
I recommend the Cantabile ii:

You'd love it, I promise.

You're most welcome. It's absolutely beautiful. Glad you liked it.
Cool!Β I've only heard a few things by Vasks, but I liked them.Β Will listen to this soon.
