Bernard Haitink died last night, aged 92.  His career was so extraordinary that it’s impossible to summarise, so I’ll leave that to Gramophone Magazine:

Thank you @jen for the article.

I didn't know much about Haitink, except that he was a colossus among conductors, and unfortunately I haven't listened to much of his interpretations. I will rectify that by starting with Idagio's in memoriam list of his recordings:

Yes: just saw this sad news. He conducted my favourite Rosenkavalier with te Kanawa, von Otter and Hendricks: gloriously sublime.
