Greetings data nerds!
Has anyone here done a mapping or other comparison of the metadata schema for the major streaming services that offer classical music? Are there any commonalities? Do they share any field labels? Do they label the same content differently? Do they all use proprietary taxonomies?
Am I the only data nerd here?
Have you had a look at Open Opus, @odalisque? It's a collaborative metadata database with an API for apps and other services to use it. There are three related apps so far - Concerto (classical music search interface for Apple Music), ConcertMaster (classical music search interface for Spotify), and Classical (Mac and iOS app with composer info linked to Apple Music).
It's beyond my expertise, but it looks like there are opportunities to develop the database. Is this the sort of thing a data nerd like you might find interesting?
Super cool - thanks Rose! I'll check it out. 👍🏻
Looking at the docs for Open Opus, it seems like it would be pretty easy to create apps that use it. What they really need, though, is collaborative help to build the size of the library of composers and works. They say a data editing tool is coming. I might give them a prod about that to see if they have a timeline on it.
