I was surprised yesterday to find that the DVD of the 2019-20 production of Fidelio at Covent Garden under Pappano can be viewed in the Apple Music app.

β€ŽBeethoven: Fidelio, Op. 72 (Visual Album) [Live] by David Butt Philip, Lise Davidsen, Georg Zeppenfeld, Simon Neal, Amanda Forsythe, Robin Tritschler, Egils Silins, The Orchestra of the Royal Opera House, Royal Opera Chorus & Antonio Pappano on Apple Music

In the current issue of Gramophone I had read of Lise Davidsen's "wonderful Leonore, touchingly acted and superbly sung, her voice sounding gloriously rich and youthful both at full power and in moments of tenderness." When I had tried previously to listen to Davidsen I hadn't much enjoyed her singing so I was intrigued by this review and went into the app to see if there was perhaps an audio version of the recording. This is what I found and when I played it the video appeared. There are no subtitles, so far as I can see, and I still didn't enjoy Davidsen's voice in the great Abscheulicher, Komm HoffnungΒ aria. πŸ™
